UKAG WhatsApp Community Standards and Privacy Policy

Who we are

The WhatsApp community is run by UKAG (UK Amstrad Group) to help people chat, share and connect about retro Amstrad computing, UKAG events and related community activity.

What this community is for

The UKAG WhatsApp community exists to:

  • Share news, updates and information about UKAG
  • Chat about Amstrad computers, software, hardware and retro computing
  • Help members connect with others in the community
  • Promote relevant UKAG and other retro events, meetups and activities

Children and young people

Children and young people may take part in the UKAG WhatsApp community only if they meet WhatsApp’s applicable minimum-age and account requirements.

A parent or legal guardian must also be a member of the community and must consent to, supervise and take responsibility for their child’s participation. The parent or guardian is responsible for helping the child understand and follow this policy and the community rules.

The community is not a supervised youth service. UKAG administrators cannot take responsibility for supervising individual children or monitoring everything they may see within WhatsApp.

What data we may see

If you join the UKAG WhatsApp community, admins and other members may be able to see information associated with your WhatsApp account, including:

  • Your name as shown in WhatsApp
  • Your phone number
  • Your profile picture, if you use one
  • Any messages, images, links or other content you post in the community

Please only share information you are happy for other members of the community to see.

How your data is used

We use information shared within the WhatsApp community to:

  • Manage and moderate the community
  • Respond to questions or issues
  • Share updates about UKAG and relevant activities
  • Help keep the community safe and welcoming

We do not sell your personal data.

WhatsApp’s own data processing

This community is hosted on WhatsApp, which is operated by Meta. When you use WhatsApp, your data is also processed according to WhatsApp and Meta’s own privacy terms and policies. You should read those policies to understand how they handle your information.

Community rules

By joining the UKAG WhatsApp community, you agree to:

  • Be respectful to other members
  • Keep discussion relevant to the group or community purpose
  • Avoid abusive, discriminatory, harassing or offensive behaviour
  • Avoid spam, scams or excessive self-promotion
  • Avoid sharing illegal, harmful or inappropriate content
  • Respect other people’s privacy and not share their personal information without permission
  • Keep all messages, images, videos, links, language and humour suitable for children and young people
  • Do not send inappropriate private messages to a child or young person, or seek unnecessary personal information or private contact with them
  • Do not share photographs, videos, personal information or identifying details about a child without appropriate permission from their parent or guardian and, where appropriate, the child

Admins may remove content or remove members who do not follow these rules.

Safeguarding children and young people

The safety and wellbeing of children and young people takes priority. Members must not post sexual, violent, threatening, exploitative or otherwise age-inappropriate content, even as a joke.

Any member who is concerned about another member’s behaviour towards a child or young person should contact a UKAG administrator promptly. Administrators may remove content, restrict contact or remove members where they consider this necessary to protect a child or the wider community.

Where UKAG believes that a child may be at risk of harm, information may be shared with the child’s parent or guardian, WhatsApp, the police or another appropriate safeguarding authority.

Sharing photos, videos and messages

Please think carefully before posting photos, videos, screenshots, personal information or humour related media. Content shared in the group may be seen, copied or shared by other members.

If you share content, you are responsible for making sure you have the right to share it.

How long information is kept

Messages and shared content will usually remain visible in the WhatsApp community unless they are deleted by the sender, removed by an admin, or removed by WhatsApp under its own policies.

Admins may keep records of serious incidents or moderation issues where necessary to help manage the community and protect members.

Leaving the community

You can leave the WhatsApp community at any time through WhatsApp.

If you leave, your future participation will stop, but messages you posted before leaving may still remain visible to others unless deleted.

Your rights

If you would like to ask about any personal data directly handled by UKAG in relation to this WhatsApp community, you can contact us.

This does not include data held by WhatsApp or Meta, which you would need to address through their own services.

Contact

If you have any questions about this policy or about the UKAG WhatsApp community, please contact us via the UKAG website or the community itself.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Any significant changes will be shared with the community or updated on the UKAG website.
