There&#8217;s been <a href=\"https:\/\/retrogames.biz\/products\/thespectrum\/\">The Spectrum<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/retrogames.biz\/products\/thec64\/\">TheC64<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/retrogames.biz\/products\/thec64-mini-black\/\">TheC64 Mini<\/a>, all of which shipped with a pre-installed set of games showcasing some of best the platforms had to offer. There were also some highly questionable choices in the offer too.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It got me thinking&#8230; If someone finally sees sense and releases the machine the world really wants, a recreated Amstrad CPC, either in mini or full-size form, what games would bundle with it?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Right now, the closest we can get is building our own using the excellent CPCESP fork of the ESPectrum project <em>[We didn&#8217;t know what that meant either, but apparently it&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/EremusOne\/\">some techy GitHub stuff<\/a> -Ed]<\/em>. But it does at least mean we can build one now rather than wait, possibly forever. And we do mean build, check out the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ukag.org.uk\/index.php\/2026\/04\/07\/3d-printed-cpc-mini-tiny-build-big-amstrad-energy\/\">CPC Mini our very own Simon 3D printed<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The\u00a0Amstrad CPC, like its 8-bit counterparts, had technical constraints (limited RAM, cassette loading on the 464 and 464+, difficulty scrolling), while also overcoming many of the issues its rivals were hampered by (colour-clash on the ZX Spectrum, a palette that was mostly brown and the world\u2019s slowest disk drive on the C64). <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Developers of the better games released had to prioritise gameplay, ingenuity and design clarity. The best games on the CPC aren\u2019t just technically impressive, they are\u00a0<em>timelessly playable<\/em>. Let\u2019s look at a top 20.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Fantasy CPC Mini games bundle top 20<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>I\u2019ve put together a list of 20 games that to this day resonate with me. Its brilliance lies in&nbsp;perfect control, escalating challenge and score-driven replayability. Even decades later, it remains addictive. It\u2019s often cited as one of the most iconic 8-bit games cross all platforms due to its accessibility and depth.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Why it stands out: pure gameplay perfection\u2014no wasted mechanics.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>2.&nbsp;Manic Miner<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"312\" height=\"231\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ukag.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/manic-miner-amstrad-cpc-20.png.webp\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-272\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.ukag.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/manic-miner-amstrad-cpc-20.png.webp 312w, https:\/\/www.ukag.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/manic-miner-amstrad-cpc-20.png-300x222.webp 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 312px) 100vw, 312px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>A surreal, punishing platformer with tight level design and memorable music. Its difficulty forces mastery. It\u2019s not the best looking game by any stretch of the imagination, but it\u2019s an example of how exceptional gameplay eclipses graphics and sound.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Why it stands out: one of the earliest examples of\u00a0precision platforming as art.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>3.&nbsp;Jet Set Willy<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"384\" height=\"270\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ukag.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/jetsetwilly3.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-273\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.ukag.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/jetsetwilly3.png 384w, https:\/\/www.ukag.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/jetsetwilly3-300x211.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 384px) 100vw, 384px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The sequel to&nbsp;<em>Manic Miner<\/em>&nbsp;expanded into a sprawling mansion with non-linear exploration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Why it stands out:\u00a0open-ended design\u00a0ahead of its time.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>4.&nbsp;Navy Seals<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"384\" height=\"272\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ukag.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/navy-seals.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-274\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.ukag.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/navy-seals.png 384w, https:\/\/www.ukag.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/navy-seals-300x213.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 384px) 100vw, 384px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>One of the toughest and best-looking games released for the later Amstrad CPC+ and GX4000 machines, this platformer loosely based on the film of the same name also has excellent opening music and makes full use of the CPC+ expanded colour palette.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Why it stands out:\u00a0challenging and strategic, combining platformer, shoot\u2019em-up and mission objectives.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>5.&nbsp;Elite<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"400\" height=\"320\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ukag.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/elite.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-275\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.ukag.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/elite.png 400w, https:\/\/www.ukag.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/elite-300x240.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>A groundbreaking open-world space simulation with trading, combat and exploration. Released for pretty much every computer platform you can think of, the CPC version is still considered to be among the best versions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Why it stands out: arguably the\u00a0first true open-world computer game.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>6.&nbsp;Dizzy<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"480\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ukag.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/dizzy.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-276\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.ukag.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/dizzy.jpg 480w, https:\/\/www.ukag.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/dizzy-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 480px) 100vw, 480px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>A charming puzzle adventure starring Dizzy the egg.
